Yesterday was an incredible day celebrating International Women’s Day. I spent the day with Maidenhead Business Girls and was blown away by the divine feminine leaders that are shining out in the world through their work, inspiration & commitment to expansion for all.
When women come together to empower one another, great things happen!
You too are a part of this if you choose to allow yourself to receive & be held by the power of Shakti energy.
The divine feminine energy (Shakti) is rising in us all – that includes men too!
As a young child growing up in an Asian culture I was brought up to believe women should be subservient & do not have dreams or desires; let alone a mission in the world!
Women were respected for putting others before themselves & being the caretaker. Although this can be a great quality it can be at the detriment to your soul who also needs love, nourishment & connection for it’s food.
We can so often neglect ourselves & our own inner priestess/ yin energy which causes depletion, exhaustion & stress mentally, physically & emotionally when we strive, force things to happen or use our will to make things happen or others happy.
Surrendering to the yin/ female energy opens up a softer vibration of ease, flow & trust.
This then allows consciousness – a far greater source of potential to move through us than just our own will & ego.
It’s so important that both men & women to stay in balance with these energies & know how to use the yin (female) & yang (male) aspects of themselves to serve, contribute & succeed in this busy, chaotic & often manic world.
Mastering your yin/yang energies & allowing “Shakti” to awaken naturally within you is both empowering, inspiring & a creative force for stepping into your leadership.
I spent my twenties out of balance as I believed as a young entrepreneurial woman I had to be strong, fiercely independent & solely rely on myself.. This created a false mask and a hec of a lot of control issues.
When I finally let go of this I then dropped into what was really underneath the surface of this mask & unconscious behaviour – powerlessness. I spent years bouncing from “powerful female” to “powerless female”.
“Empowered” is having travelled through both these paths & awakened to their illusions.
Embracing both aspects of these unconscious feminine energies is the GIFT to allow you the liberation to love them and therefore transform to the truth of who you really are…

Who is Shakti?
Shakti is responsible for creation, transformation & change, destroying demonic forces and restoring balance.
In Hinduism, Shakti (Devanagari: शक्ति; from Sanskrit shak, “to be able”), also spelled as Sakthi, meaning “power” or “empowerment” is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that move through the entire universe.
What is Shakti energy?
One energy with many names and forms: There is one energy that keeps taking on new shapes and forms. The name of that energy is Shakti, which is the manifesting, or feminine force that is actually one and the same with its only apparent companion Shiva, the latent, or masculine. Each time the energy takes on a new form, we give it a new name. Shakti becomes Kundalini Shakti, or simply Kundalini. Kundalini becomes the energy of Prana, which flows in patterns or channels called Nadis, and concentrates itself by forming intersections known as Chakras. The subtle energies condense and become known as earth, water, fire, air, and space, forming our experience of the gross world. With Kundalini awakening, the primal energy of Shakti awakens in its true form.
How do we activate Kundalini Shakti?
Awakening your Kundalini can be like tapping into a million watts of electricity where your body may only have the capacity of a 100 watt bulb at the time. You will want to prepare your body-mind so that you can open up to 100 million watts with love and ease.
There are many different methods to activating your kundalini energy from the simple to the complex, but whatever method you choose, all require you to commit to a significant lifestyle change to one of heart centred living.
How does it work?
Yoga is one of the primary ways that Kundalini can awaken, and the point of yoga practice is to awaken Kundalini.
Kundalini can also awaken as a result of trauma, illness, a near-death experience, in a dream, through Shaktipat (being awakening by a Guru), through mis-use of drugs, because of past-life awakenings or by having sex with someone who has an awakened Kundalini.
How does it benefit us?
Make that lifelong commitment to your spiritual path today. Start with loving life exactly as it is and practice being awake, aware and in the moment as much as you can. Love your body as it is and treat it gently. Listen to what it really needs. This means eating right, exercising, bathing and treating it as absolutely sacred. Your body most likely contains emotional and mental blocks where your ego is attached to certain limited belief systems. These blocks will postpone the Kundalini from rising and fully awakening. Opening up your Kundalini ignites hidden channels of creative energy, and will inadvertently inspire you to become a more conscious, healed and alive spiritual being. It will allow your life to become more full of gratitude, love and joy than ever before.
What MedYoga poses are beneficial?
Yoga poses, or asanas, are a great way to cleanse and balance the chakra system. Not only does the stretching and strengthening help benefit your physical health, but when used in conjunction with pranayama (controlled breathing), it helps to bring new life (via oxygen) and balance to the chakras in yoga.
Practicing MedYoga also introduces elements of meditation, which helps sharpen the mind while balancing and opening the chakras.
Here is a brief list of poses to cleanse and balance your energy centers:
- Root chakra yoga poses: Since the first chakra is at the base of the energy system, poses that help ground you are beneficial here. Consider:
- reclining bound angle
- child’s pose
- forward bends
- head to knee pose
- Sacral chakra yoga poses: Considered the gate chakra for all fluidity that makes you human, from tears to blood and urination to menstruation, include:
- cow face pose
- pigeon pose
- bound and open angle poses
- Solar Plexus chakra yoga poses: To foster positive energy for personal transformation and to keep your belly’s fire at a controlled burn, introduce:
- sun salutation
- boat pose
- leg lifts
- mountain pose
- Heart chakra yoga poses: Promote peace and harmony between your physical and spiritual worlds with:
- eagle pose
- Throat chakra yoga poses: To purify your being and keep your emotional self balanced, include:
- shoulder stands
- camel pose
- plow pose
- bridge pose
- Third Eye chakra yoga poses: Bolster healthy energy flow through the Third Eye with:
- child’s pose
- cat/cow pose
- shoulder stands
- Crown chakra yoga poses: Although meditation is considered the best exercise for this chakra, promote energy center balance with:
- half lotus
- corpse pose
What results can we achieve from it in our lives?
Your Kundalini is an infinite reservoir of spiritual sexual energy that fuels all the passion, purpose and aliveness in your life. It is the most highly sensually alive energy you can imagine. Typically in modern society it gets stuck and trapped or falls “asleep” at the base of your spine. This is where all mental, emotional and physical dis-ease begins.
When Kundalini awakens, a person may experience deeper empathy with others, and this empathy can almost become telepathic. There is greater sensitivity, higher energy levels, sometimes psychic abilities or deep knowing, ageing can appear to slow down, creativity and charisma can increase, as can internal peace and knowing. There is a sense of being part of All that Is. The greater mysteries of life are no longer mysteries.
Now try this!
The process for awakening your kundalini is very simple. To begin, sit in lotus position and relax.
The first part of this technique for kundalini awakening is to focus your breath starting at the base of your spine all the way up your spine and out of the top of your head. Do this for the inhale. As you inhale move your focus from the base of your spine, up the spine and out of the top of your head as though your are “breathing up” the energy.
You do not need to imagine anything. This is not about imagination but focus. Focus your breath to move up the spine and out the top of your head.
Breath is energy, “prana.” And simply by focusing the breath in a certain area, the energy moves to that area.
The second part of this technique for kundalini awakening is it to move the breath down your front as you exhale.
As you exhale, move the breath from the top of your head to the third eye, (located between your eyebrows) then to your throat and then to your heart chakra, located at the center of your chest.
Stop the breath at the center of your chest. And then again, inhale from the base of your spine, repeating the process above.
The third part of this technique for kundalini awakening is to awaken the energy.
So to awaken this energy yourself, there is an easy technique but a very important one. And that is to silently repeat the name or word that you feel most connected to on a spiritual level, as you inhale and exhale. The reason for this is that you take on the Shakti (energy) of what you focus on. So simply by repeating the name or word that gives you a sense of bliss, imparts that energy into your focus. In reality you are awakening that which is in you, not something from the outside. So by focusing on the word or name, you awaken that energy in you.
With your hands in chin mudra, sit for a few minutes in meditation and enjoy the peace and joy.
