Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a naturally occurring fat with antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties, associated with improved disease resistance when included in the diet.

Our virgin coconut oil is rich in medium chain fatty acids, the molecules believed to contribute to coconut oil’s pathogen combating properties. MCFAs are smaller than the long chain fatty acids found in other vegetable oils. Due to their length, LCFAs are difficult for the body to break down so are often stored as fat, whereas the MCFAs found in coconut oil can be easily digested and used for energy.

Native islanders in the South Pacific who rely on coconut as their main food source exhibit very low rates of incidence of the diseases commonly associated with high levels of saturated fat in the diet, and have consistently good cardiovascular health. In contrast to what would be expected based on these observations, the fats found in coconut oil are primarily saturated. The coconut is a unique source of natural healthy oils, and in contrast to animal fats and other plant based sources the saturated fats from coconut oil are associated with improved heart health.
